City of Pitesti, Romania

Pitesti, Capital City of Arges County, is located in the South-Central part of Romania, North-West of historical region Muntenia. Following documentary attestation of 1388, Pitesti, alongside Campulung, Curtea de Arges, Braila and Slatina, was recognized as one of the oldest fairs.

Sheltered by high hills on the banks of Arges River, Pitesti lies at an altitude of 250 m above sea level, on terraces formed by Arges River (S), reaching 356 m in Trivale City District (V).

Pitesti has a temperate and moderate valley topoclimate, an average annual temperature ranging from 9 ° to 10 ° C, with -2.4 ° C average in January and + 20.8 ° C in July.

Well connected to the main neighboring cities by road and rail infrastructure, Pitesti is located at a crossroads, being a national and international communication hub. Links with important cities of the country, including Bucharest, Capital of Romania, are provided by the European roads E81 / DNA1 (Bucharest – Pitesti – Sibiu – Cluj-Napoca – Satu-Mare), E574 (Bacau – Onesti – Brasov – Pitesti – Craiova), DN7 (Bucharest – Gaesti – Pitesti) and DN67B (Pitesti – Smeura – Dragasani). Arges County, where the Municipality of Pitesti is situated, has six neighboring counties – Dambovita, Teleorman, Olt, Valcea, Sibiu and Brasov – with no borders on national frontier.

Pitesti is one of the most industrialized cities in Romania, center of the car manufacturing industry in the country. Automobile Dacia S.A. car manufacturer is located in the town of Mioveni, which is only 15 km away from Pitesti. Urban area of Pitesti hosts some automobile parts manufacturers: Dräxlmaier Group, Lear Corporation and Valeo.

City of Pitesti is about 110 km east of Bucharest, Capital of Romania, both connected by freeway A1 which extends through the ring of Pitesti towards Ramnicu Valcea and Curtea de Arges.

University of Pitesti, Romania

The first higher education school in Pitesti was founded in 1962 and was called the “3-year Pedagogical Institute” with pedagogical specializations in Mathematics, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Philology and Physical Education and Sports. The opening of the technical specializations followed, leading to the establishment of the Institute of Sub Engineers (1969), united in 1974 under the name of the Institute of Higher Education. Subsequently, there were various other forms of organization, in a period under the subordination of the Bucharest Polytechnic Institute, reaching 1991, when, after three decades of accumulations in this intellectual segment, it became autonomous and received the name “University of Pitesti “.

Starting from the beginning, the University of Pitesti has polarized the interest of many young people in the country for the programs of study it offered, for the quality of the education provided by the exceptional academic staff , but also for the students from all over the world, since Pitesti is famous for the largest Romanian Language Training Center for Foreign Students.

In over 50 years of existence in the Romanian university space, the University of Pitesti has been and is recognized as a source of human resource, prepared in a formula of excellence for the local, national and international labor market. The University of Pitesti provides free and coordinated access to a modern education, folded on the needs and realities of the European socio-economic environment. The university is composed by faculties: Faculty of Sciences, Physical Education and Informatics, Faculty of Mechanics and Technology, Faculty of Electronics, Communications and Computers Science, Faculty of Electronics, Telecommunication and Computer Science, Faculty of Economics and Law, Faculty of Educational Sciences, Social Sciences and Psychology, Faculty of Education, Social Sciences and Psychology and Faculty of Theology, Letters, History and Arts.

In all these years, there was a major concern for the development of the education in the Arges County, the educational offer thus becoming very generous, opening branches in the areas of interest in the region.

Faculty of Mechanics and Technology

Founded in 1969, the Faculty of Mechanics and Technology currently offers, within the Engineering Science fundamental study field, four License degree programs, six Master and Doctoral programs in four core areas of Doctoral Science.

The Faculty has proven its competence through the professional training of many generations of specialists, through the transfer of knowledge, the contribution to the enrichment of the knowledge heritage and to the development of the performance met by academic and research staff.

The Faculty has a teaching staff consisting of 9 university professors, 14 lecturers, 15 heads of workshops and 2 university assistants.

In terms of study programs, the Faculty combines the Engineering profile with the Economic one, aiming at modular flexibility of study programs within the same field. Endowment with the necessary materials allows orientation towards scientific training and towards top research, aiming to develop academic Education through Master and Doctoral studies.
